Project 2 pre-drilled star ceiling Installation

Use a hole-cutter attachment to make a hole in the ceiling for the fibre harness to pass through.
First cut a hole in the ceiling, large enough to accommodate the "common end" of the fibre harness. Remember to check the location of any electrical cables in the attic above before drilling or cutting into the ceiling. The number and type of fixings you need to use to secure the starfield board to the ceiling will depend on the weight and size of the board, the type of ceiling, whether you're drilling into plasterboard or joists. Use common sense and err on the side of caution - you'll end up seeing stars in a painful sense if the board comes down!
The harness with the common end is passed through the hole in the ceiling - although the hole doesn't show up very well here!
Preparing screw holes in the panel.
To make the panel blend in seamlessly with the existing ceiling decor you'll want it screwed tight up against the ceiling. However, another alternative is to let it hang a couple of mm below the ceiling. The consequence of this is that light from the fibres at the back of the panel will leak out around the edge of the panel in a secondary decorative lighting effect.
Additional screws are added after the panel is fixed in place.

It's a good idea to use a countersink bit to ensure a flush finish of your screwheads. Fill and paint or otherwise disguise the screwheads when you're finished.

Now, up into the attic to connect the fibre harness to the lightsource. It's a good idea to place the lightsource on a secure flat surface - an mdf offcut will do - ensuring that there is room all around for ventilation. Don't use too large a board since you want to avoid unnecessary resonance from the colour wheel motor and/or fan.

Our lightsources come with one or two 13 amp plugs fitted as standard. If you're not confident and competent about any other type of connection, seek help from an electrician.
The common end is plugged into the lightsource. Voila! The lightsource is plugged in and switched on. The glow is light escaping from the side of the harness.
The hallway before the project began. The finished job. The main difference is the absent pendant light. The panel blends fairly unobtrusively into the ceiling.
Before and after: the starfield panel blends unobtrusively with the existing decor - although we've removed a ceiling pendant light.
