Fibre Optic Fabric
We are glad now to be able to offer customers bespoke products based on a special fabric which incorporates hundreds of very, very fine optical fibres woven into it. The fibres can be illuminated by either LEDs or optical fibres, depending on the specific circumstances of the installation. The cloth can be made up into curtains, or incorporated in items of soft furnishings, but would also work well in more permanent features such as wall panels. In the bedroom a headboard covered in the glowing fabric would be a very dramatic feature.
We think this would also work very well in a home cinema installation.

Hundreds of very fine optical fibres are woven into the fabric, creating a shimmering effect as light escapes from the surface of the fibres. This is a photo of the basic, unprocessed fabric, illuminated from just one end, so that exposed fibre ends are visible in the foreground. In the finished product light would be introduced at both ends of the fibres for maximum illumination. |
As this photo shows, the fabric is flexible enough to be used in items of clothing, with battery-powered LEDs. |
Soft furnishings can also be made using the fabric, again using battery-powered LEDs. |
Here, two widths of fabric are used to create a greater depth of the vertical orientation of the fibres. |
