This customer wanted to add a bit more class to his already classy motor cuiser by making the vessel's name seem to float above the surface of the transom. A light source running off the boat's 12 volt system supplies light to a harness of optical fibres which pass through holes drilled in the transom and emerge behind the individual letters.
The photo shows an early stage of the project, which has yet to be completed.
"My next step," writes our creative customer, "is to chrome-plate the solid brass letters that I have machined. These chrome letters will be fixed on top of the light pipe letters - the pic shows the temporary knife-cut vinyl graphic."

Obviously, the same technique can be used in land-based applications, lighting the name of a house, for instance.
